With great pleasure we’d like to announce World Food Day 2019: the agrifood professionals event in the Netherlands on October 16th. This year’s theme is ‘Circular Food Systems for Food Security’.

By attending, you will receive the latest insights from international renowned experts, inspiration for new business ideas and opportunities to link with other players in the field. All this to help achieve the UN’s second Sustainable Development Goal (SDG2): putting an end to hunger and food insecurity, and providing sustainable and healthy food for everyone.

World Food Day 2019 is the closing event of Dutch Food Week and in the morning program the Netherlands Food Partnership will be launched festively. We hope to welcome you to join forces with high-level professionals from government, business, science and civil society across nations, sectors and professions. Together, we have the collective power to end hunger and malnutrition and build a resilient food system for everyone.

What is going on around the world in terms of circular economy for food security? During the the Circular Sessions we showcase circular solutions from all around the globe. You can only attend one of the seven circular sessions. At registration you get to pick one case of your choice.

Circular Sessions on Circular Food Systems

  • Food Losses: How reducing food loss in developing countries is essential to end hunger and malnutrition.
  • The Land: How retaining and restoring natural capital and making changes in our agricultural methods and practices are needed to transition to a circular food system.
  • Technology: How technology plays an important role in finding circular and sustainable solutions to malnutrition.
  • The City: How cities influence the way food is grown and are key in ensuring food security.
  • The Plate: How making dietary shifts can be a viable strategy to provide healthy and sustainable food for all.
  • Trade: How global agricultural trade plays a critical role in food security.

ABOUT WORLD FOOD DAY

World Food Day is celebrated all over the world on 16 October to increase awareness of hunger and malnutrition. With this event we set the stage to establish World Food Day in the Netherlands. An important part of the program will be the launch of the Netherlands Food Partnership, a collaboration in which existing organizations and networks will bundle and mobilize their knowledge, expertise and innovation power – to thereby take Dutch commitment to global food security to the next level. Cooperation will also be sought with international partners.The purpose of World Food Day 2019 is to create a multi-stakeholder platform for debate and international exchange. Another key feature of the annual event is to discuss global trends and take stock of the Dutch contribution to SDG2 and other related SDGs.

World Food Day 2019 is the closing event of Dutch Food Week 2019. The event is an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with Dutch Food Week and all of its partners.
